We woke up early and headed to the crowded stinky docks where we looked for a guide down the Amazon. Almost imediately we found one, whos name was Josue. He led us down to his small covered boat. Soon we were speeding down the river bouncing up and down in other boat’s wakes.

Heading for the Amazon

We sped down the river to where the Rio Negro joined the Rio Solimoes (Amazon River). The Rio Negro is blackwater and the Rio Solimoes is white water. The rivers have different temperatures and differant PH.

You can plainly see where they meet.

Three planes flew over us about three times. Apologies for the less then decent picture.

We entered the jungle a bit and stopped at a house. Two kids came out with animals in their arms, a sloth and a caiman. We held them and then went around back to their caged anaconda. It was quite large.

I dipped my net under the Water Hyacinth a few times and more often then not caught a few fish among the ones caught were some baby Myleus sp. and some red tailed tetras.

Tomorow I will post pictures of the rest of the trip tomorow.
